6 Ways to Prevent Tire Dry + Renew Faded Trim
✅ Here are six steps to help preserve your tires:
- Avoid typical protectants: Solvent-based silicone products dissolve the wax and cause premature fading and sidewall cracking. Use RENEW PROTECT's BLAK, GLOZ, or SATN dry-seal treatments to fortify and lock in the existing OEM protectants.
- Block UV and Ozone exposure: Store vehicles or tires out of direct sunlight and consider using vented tire covers that will not hold moisture. RENEW PROTECT dry-seal treatments are also optimal for Ozone and UV block protection.
- Avoid extremes in temperature: Excessively high temperatures increase the risk of blowouts and uneven wear. Low temperatures make rubber compounds brittle, leading to cracks and reduced road resistance. Maintain proper tire pressure to avoid heat build up. Check tire pressure seasonally and rotate tires every 5,000 to 7,500 miles to ensure even tread wear.
- The manufacture date is listed on the sidewall next to the DOT information and shown as the Tire Identification Number or TIN. Only buy tires within one year or less of the manufacture date.
- Lift the vehicle: When storing a vehicle, use stands to get the weight off the tires. Be aware of ozone-creating sources in enclosed storage spaces, primarily electronic equipment.
- Move it: Regularly drive the vehicle to flex the tire compound and push out sacrificial protectants to the sidewalls. Drive at least every three weeks, with a drive of at least 10 miles.
